Star Stuff

“Supernovas are giant stars that die. New stars are born in stellar nurseries where they condense like rain drops. They get so hot that the nuclei of the atoms fuse together deep within them to make the oxygen we breathe, the carbon in our muscles, the calcium in our bones, the iron in our blood. All of this was cooked in the fiery hearts of long vanished stars. You, me, everyone……we are made of star stuff.”

  1. Interesting as this fact is I’m not sure what it proves. We know the whole universe is made from a hundred or so chemical elements. When we are cremated these are returned to the earth and atmosphere. Just think I’m 73 and I may produce some carbon dioxide and add to global warming; perhaps I should be buried so my organics can feed insect and plant life.

  2. The point of the article isn’t to prove or disprove anything my friend. It’s more about how it makes me feel knowing it. There is something kind of cool about being made from the same cosmic material that our whole universe is made of. It just makes me feel happy.

And as it regards being buried so that you can feed the Earth, that’s a concept I could get behind. There is a reason why we have ants and carrion birds. Circle of Life m’man.

Thank you for your comment friend. It was nice to hear your thoughts.
